Kompdesk runs in your web browser, so you don't need an expensive or specialised device. Here's a simple guide depending on how you'll use it. Tip: if you're shopping in store, you can show this page to the salesperson.
👨⚖️ For Judges
Judges can use a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, whatever you're most comfortable with. Many judges prefer a tablet because it's portable, but a laptop works just as well.
What to ask for at the shop:
"I need a device for scoring on a web app at live events. A tablet, laptop, or desktop from the last 3–4 years is fine. I just need a good screen, reliable Wi-Fi, and decent battery life."
Good options:

🎪 For Event Organisers
You'll be running the whole event (building schedules, managing entries, generating PDFs), so a proper laptop or desktop is best.
What to ask for at the shop:
"I need a laptop for running web-based event management software. At least 8GB of RAM, an Intel i5 / Apple M1 / AMD Ryzen 5 processor or better, from the last 4 years."
- Best choice: Apple MacBook Air (M1 or newer) or any mid-range Windows laptop
- Screen: 13 inches or larger, full HD (1920×1080)
- Storage: 256GB SSD is plenty (everything runs in the browser)
🩰 For Studios, Dancers, Parents and Spectators
What to ask for at the shop:
"Any modern smartphone, tablet, or laptop from the last 5 years will do. I just need to browse a website."
- Any iPhone (iPhone 8 or newer) or Android phone from the last 5 years
- Any modern laptop, tablet, or Chromebook
- 4GB RAM is enough
🌐 Internet Connection (Important!)
- Home use: Standard home broadband is fine
- At events (especially judges and organisers): Use the venue's dedicated event Wi-Fi where possible. Avoid relying only on mobile data or shared public Wi-Fi
- Minimum speed: 10 Mbps download, 2 Mbps upload

Make sure your device has one of these (most do already):
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Safari (on Apple devices)
- Microsoft Edge
- Firefox
Always keep your browser updated to the latest version.
Links opened inside social media apps: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Pinterest and X open links in their own built-in browser. Kompdesk will not run there. It shows a page asking you to open the link in Chrome or Safari instead.
❌ What Won't Work
- Very old phones or tablets (more than 6–7 years old)
- Internet Explorer (no longer supported)
- Devices that can't install a modern browser
- Kindle e-readers or basic feature phones
