How to Add a Custom Award

Step-by-step: create a custom award during setup or on an existing event, and choose the right award type.

A custom award is any special recognition beyond the standard placements, for example "Best Technique", "Most Entertaining", or an automatic "Top Score" trophy. You can add custom awards two ways: while building the event in the wizard, or any time afterwards from the Event Editor.

Option A: On an existing event (Event Editor)

Use this for events that are already created, including live ones.

  1. Open the event and go to the Awards Settings section.
  2. Click Edit Section to enter edit mode.
  3. Under Custom Awards / Judge Nominations, click Add Award.
  4. Enter the Award Name (e.g., "Best Technique").
  5. Choose the Award Type (see the table below).
  6. If you picked Top Score in Section, select which section the award applies to from the dropdown.
  7. Optionally add a Description. The helper text under the form explains what the selected type does.
  8. Click Add.
Custom awards save immediately. Each award is written the moment you click Add (and removed as soon as you confirm a delete). You do not need to click "Save Changes" for the award itself. "Save Changes" only persists the gala-evening toggle.

Option B: While creating the event (Wizard)

  1. In the Competition Wizard, go to Step 12: Custom Awards.
  2. Click Add Award.
  3. Enter the Award Name, choose the Award Type, pick a section if needed, and add an optional Description.
  4. Click Add Award.
In the wizard, awards are held with the rest of your draft and saved when you click Save Draft or Publish.

To skip awards for now, tick "I'll configure awards later". You can always add them later from the Event Editor.

Choosing the Award Type

TypeWhat it does
Judge NominationJudges see this award on their scorecard and nominate the recipient(s). Best for subjective awards like "Best Choreography".
Top Score in SectionAutomatically awarded to the highest-scoring entry in one section you choose. No judge action needed.
Top Score OverallAutomatically awarded to the highest-scoring entry across the whole event. Revealed only after all schedule days are completed.
Top Score per SessionAutomatically awarded to the highest-scoring entry in each session: the sections before each awards ceremony in the schedule.
Best per Age Division, Level, Performance Type or StyleAutomatically names the best dancer or entry for each value you choose, for the whole event or at every awards ceremony. See Best by Category Awards.
Best in a Custom ScopeOne winner from a group you build from up to 4 values, for example Mini and Children in Ballet. See Best by Category Awards.

Rules and Things to Know

  • Award names must be unique within the event.
  • Top Score in Section requires you to select a section, so you must have configured sections first (Wizard Step 9, or the Sections tab in the Event Editor). Battle / placement sections aren't eligible and won't appear in the section list.
  • Only one Top Score Overall award is allowed per event. The option is disabled once one exists.
  • Judge Nomination awards only collect nominees if judges actually nominate during scoring. Top Score awards need no manual input. Kompdesk ranks by score automatically.
  • Winners and nominees appear on the Awards tab of the Results page as scores and nominations come in. See the Awards and Winners Management article.

Removing an Award

In Awards Settings (edit mode) or the wizard's awards table, click the trash icon next to an award and confirm. In the Event Editor this removes it immediately.
