Skip, Scratch dancer and the Out of section list

How a skipped or pre-arranged dancer is scored from the Out of section list during a gap, and what their dance means for placement.

Some events let a dancer perform outside their section: a dancer who was not ready when their turn came, or one who arranged with the organiser to dance at another time. You score them from a list, on their own section's scorecard, exactly as if they had danced in the section.

The four buttons

Skip. The dancer is not ready. They stay in your queue for this section and come back before the section-complete screen, and the section cannot finish while they wait. See Skipping an Entry.

Move to out of section. The dancer is not here now but may still dance today. They move to the Out of section list for every judge, and the section can finish without them. They stay on the list on later days until they are scored or scratched. Offered on every pass, with a confirmation.

Scratch dancer. The dancer is not going to perform. It records a zero from you; the dancer gets no placement, no award and no certificate, and they do not go to the Out of section list. Each judge taps it for themselves. Use it in the section, or from the list on any day for a dancer who never came.

Out of section. Opens the list of dancers waiting to be scored outside their section. The button only appears when no section is live on your stage: during a break, an awards item, an Out of section item, after the current item has completed, or on the Day Complete card. While a section is running, including when you have finished your entries and are waiting for the other judges, the button is hidden, and the server refuses a start. A dancer never dances ad hoc in the middle of another section.

Scoring from the list

  1. In a gap, tap Out of section. The list shows every waiting dancer with their kind and what the dance means now: "Same session: can place", "Outside session: medal by score, no placement" or "Pre-arranged: medal by score, no placement". At an event without score medals there is no medal by score, so the last two read "scored, no placement".
  2. Find the dancer on stage by entry number, routine name, dancer name or studio. Groups are listed by routine name.
  3. Tap Score now. Their section's scorecard opens with a banner naming the dancer. Score and submit as usual.
  4. You return to where you were.

The first judge to open the card fixes the placement rule for everyone; later judges read it. Starting needs the network; scores after a start queue as usual if the connection drops.

On stage now. When another judge has opened a dancer's card, your app shows "On stage now, out of section" with Score now. The dancer dances once; each judge scores once. The dancer stays on the list until every judge on the panel has scored them. If you open a card by mistake and go Back before any judge has scored, the dancer is no longer on stage and the notice goes.

Dancers booked for a later day. A dancer the organiser booked into an Out of section item on a later day is on your list now too, with the date and time of their booking under their name. Score them in any gap, the same way. Until they are scored, every section change and awards ceremony on that stage waits for the judges to press Start next section, so there is always a gap to score them in. On the Day Complete card they have their own line with the Out of section button. Once scored, their booking is removed and they do not appear on that later day again.

Who scores. The judges on this stage today score every out of section dancer, whether or not they judged the dancer's section. Every judge on this stage presses Score now and the scorecard opens for all of them together. A dancer on another stage is not yours to score, and the row says so in place of Score now. A judge who judged a section on this stage earlier today and has gone home still counts: the waiting screen names who has not pressed, and the organiser marks that judge unavailable on the judges page so the card opens without them.

What the dance means for placement

  • Same session: the dancer performs after the previous awards ceremony has ended and before their section's ceremony starts. Once that ceremony is running the placements are being announced, so a dancer who goes on during or after it is outside the session. In session they can place and get a placement certificate. The ceremony does not start by itself while a dancer is waiting: it stays on Starting soon until every judge has pressed Start next section.
  • Outside the session, or pre-arranged: the dancer is scored, keeps their comments, and always receives a participation certificate. Where the event uses score medals (Gold, Silver, by score) they keep the level their score earns, shown on that certificate. They cannot place. Gala and judge nominations are not offered for them.

Only an Awards item is a session boundary. When the last section of a session closes and a dancer is still waiting out of section, the stage pauses before the ceremony: your tablet shows Start next section under "Next: Awards Ceremony", with the Out of section list. Score the waiting dancers there and they can still place. The ceremony starts only when every judge has pressed Start next section, and a dancer who is not ready by then is outside the session. When nobody is waiting, the ceremony starts as usual.

Close of day

A dancer who is on stage out of section and still being scored holds the close of that day until every judge has scored them. A dancer who has not started stays on your Out of section list for the next day and does not hold the close. Score them from the list, tap Scratch dancer, or let the organiser book them into an Out of section item on a later day.
