This step is required. You must select at least one age group.
What Are Age Groups?
Age groups divide competitors into fair age-based divisions. Each age group has a name and an age range (e.g., "Junior" for ages 8–10, "Teen" for ages 13–15).
Age groups are one of the four dimensions that define a section (Age Group, Style, Level, and Performance Type).
Selecting Age Groups
- Your organisation's existing age groups are listed for selection
- Click an age group to add it to your event (it appears as a coloured badge)
- Click the × on a badge to remove it
- Use the search bar to filter by name
Creating New Age Groups
Click "Add New Age Group" to create one:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The age group name (e.g., "Mini", "Junior", "Teen") |
| Min Age | The minimum age for this group |
| Max Age | The maximum age for this group |
New age groups are saved to your organisation and can be reused in future events.
Example Age Groups
Click "Add Example Age Groups" to see pre-populated suggestions such as Mini, Junior, Teen, Senior, and Adult. Only examples not already added will be shown.
How Age Is Calculated
You choose the calculation method per event on this step. Two options are supported:
- As of January 1 of the event year (default, industry standard). A dancer turning 12 in March still competes as an 11-year-old all year. Ensures consistent age divisions throughout the season.
- As of the first day of the event. Uses the scheduled start date. Dancers with birthdays between January 1 and the event will be in a higher age division than under the Jan-1 method.
How the age is matched to a division:
- Solo entries use the single dancer's age under the chosen method.
- Group entries (duos, trios, groups) use the average age of all participating dancers (rounded), so the group isn't pulled down by one much-younger dancer or pulled up by one much-older dancer.
Changing the method on a live event:
- Existing entries are NOT silently re-categorised. When you save a change, the system shows you how many entries no longer fit their assigned division and offers to flip those back to DRAFT for re-placement. Entries that are already on the schedule keep their current division.
- Once any entry has been scored, the calculation method is locked for the rest of the event.
Important Notes
- At least 1 age group is required to proceed
- Removing an age group also removes any sections that use it
- Duplicate names (case-insensitive) are not allowed
