What Happens When I Remove a Performance Type?

Removing a performance type permanently deletes all associated entries, scores, sections, and related data.

Removing a performance type from your event is a destructive action that cascades through all related data. A confirmation dialog warns you before proceeding.

What Gets Deleted

When you remove a performance type, the following data is permanently deleted:

DataDescription
EntriesAll event entries in sections that use this performance type
Entry dancersDancer assignments on those entries
ScoresAll judge scores and criteria scores for those entries
Entry resultsPlacements, awards, and calculated results for those entries
Fee line itemsFee records associated with those entries
Schedule assignmentsLinks between entries and schedule items
Section scorecardsScorecard assignments for sections with this type
Section configsSection configurations that reference this type
NominationsCompetition nominations linked to those section configs
Competition performance typeThe type's association with your event

What Is NOT Deleted

  • The performance type template itself: it remains available for use in other events
  • Other performance types: only the one you remove is affected
  • Non-section schedule items: breaks, awards, gala items, and other schedule blocks are untouched
  • Studio and dancer registrations: studios and dancers remain registered for the event; only their entries under this type are removed

When Would I Remove a Performance Type?

Common reasons include:

  • You added a type by mistake during setup
  • No entries have been submitted for this type and you want to simplify
  • You're restructuring sections before publishing

Can I Undo This?

No. This action cannot be undone. If you need the performance type back, you can re-add it, but all entries, scores, and section configurations will need to be recreated from scratch.

Best Practices

  1. Check entry counts first: the Performance Types table shows how many entries exist for each type
  2. Do this before publishing: removing a type after studios have submitted entries causes data loss
  3. Communicate with studios: if entries have already been submitted, inform affected studios before removing a type
  4. Consider hiding instead: if you want to prevent new entries without deleting existing ones, consider closing registration instead
