Score cards define what judges evaluate and how scores are calculated. Setting up scoring correctly is essential for fair, consistent judging.
How Scoring Works
- You create score cards with named criteria (e.g., Technique, Musicality)
- Each criterion has a maximum point value (e.g., 10 points)
- Score cards are assigned to sections: a section can only have one score card
- Judges see the score card when scoring entries in that section
- Judges rate each criterion and optionally add comments
- The system calculates totals by summing all criteria scores
Creating a Score Card
- Go to the Scoring section of your event
- Click Add Score Card
- Enter a name (e.g., "Standard Solo", "Group Performance", "Battle Elimination")
- Configure options:
- Include Comments: Judges can write feedback per entry
- Comments Required: Judges must write a comment to submit
- Comments Public: Participants can see judge comments in their results
Adding Criteria
After creating a score card, add criteria:
- Click Add Criterion
- Enter the criterion name (e.g., "Technique")
- Set the maximum points (e.g., 10)
- Optionally add a description to guide judges
- Drag to reorder criteria as needed
Common criteria examples:
| Criterion | Description | Typical Max |
|---|---|---|
| Technique | Technical skill, control, and execution | 10 |
| Choreography | Creative movement choices and structure | 10 |
| Musicality | Rhythm, timing, and music interpretation | 10 |
| Presentation | Stage presence, expression, and performance quality | 10 |
| Costume and Appearance | Appropriateness and visual impact | 5 |
You can customise criteria to match your competition's judging philosophy.
Assigning Score Cards to Sections
Each section on your schedule needs a score card:
- Go to Scoring > Section Assignments
- For each section, select the appropriate score card
- You can assign the same score card to multiple sections
- A default score card can be set to auto-assign to new sections
Tips:
- Create separate score cards if different section types need different criteria (e.g., solos vs. groups)
- Assign score cards before publishing your schedule and before judges begin scoring
- Score cards can be locked after judging starts to prevent accidental changes
Score Card Types Comparison
| Feature | Regular Score Card | Battle (Knockout) Score Card | Placement Score Card |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scoring method | Numerical criteria (e.g., 1-10) | Elimination voting | Judge-ranked positions (1stβ10th) |
| Used for | Traditional sections | Knockout battles/cyphers | Placement battles |
| Score calculation | Sum of criteria = total score | Votes determine advancement | Average placement β points |
| Placements | Ranked by total score | Elimination order | Average rank across judges |
| Judge interaction | Rate criteria, add comments | Tap numbers to vote | Assign positions to participants |
What Judges See
When a judge opens a section to score:
- The entry name and dancers are displayed
- The score card criteria appear as individual fields
- The judge enters a score for each criterion (0 to max points)
- If comments are enabled, a text field appears for feedback
- Scores auto-save as drafts so nothing is lost
- The judge clicks Submit to finalise the score
Judges can edit their scores for entries within the current section by navigating back and resubmitting. Once they complete a section and move on, scores for that section are locked.
Score Card Status
The Scoring page shows the status of your score card setup:
- Sections without score cards: These sections cannot be judged until assigned
- Score cards without sections: Created but not yet in use
- Active score cards: Currently assigned and ready for judging
