Understanding Registration Types

Understand the difference between platform registration and event registration.

This is the single most common point of confusion on Kompdesk, so read this carefully. The word "register" means two completely different things, and doing one does not do the other.

  1. Registering for Kompdesk means creating your account (also called Platform Registration). You do this once.
  2. Registering for an event means signing up for one specific competition. You do this separately, every time you want to compete.
A simple way to think about it: Registering for Kompdesk is like joining a gym. Registering for an event is like booking a specific class at that gym. Being a member does not book you into any class, and you can be a member for years while booking classes only when you want them.

So creating a Kompdesk account does NOT enter you into any competition. After your account exists, you still have to go to the event and register for it.

Platform Registration (One-Time)

What it is: Creating your Kompdesk account to access the platform.

Who does this:

What happens:

  1. Create account with email and password
  2. Select your role
  3. Complete your profile
  4. Access your dashboard

Key points:

  • FREE - no cost to create an account
  • Done ONCE - your account persists forever
  • Gives ACCESS - browse events, manage profile, see history
  • Does NOT register you for any competition

Event Registration (Per Competition)

What it is: Signing up to participate in a specific competition event.

Who does this:

  • Studios registering to enter dancers in an event
  • Dancers registering for a competition (with a studio code)
  • Guardians registering their children for a competition
  • Judges registering using a judge code from the organiser

What happens:

  1. Go to the event page and click "Register"
  2. Select your registration type (Studio, Dancer, Parent/Guardian, or Judge)
  3. Provide the required information for your role
  4. Receive confirmation and access to the event portal

Key points:

  • Done PER EVENT: register separately for each competition
  • Has DEADLINES: the entries close date applies (judges can still register after this date)
  • Gives EVENT ACCESS: schedule, entries, results, and role-specific portal pages
  • Separate from entries: registering for an event does not create entries; entries are submitted later through the studio or dancer portal

The Two-Step Process

STEP 1: PLATFORM REGISTRATION (One-time)
New User → Create Account → Select Role → Complete Profile
                    ↓
         Platform Account Created
         (Free, permanent access)

STEP 2: EVENT REGISTRATION (Per competition)
Go to Event Page → Click Register → Select Role → Confirm Details
                    ↓
         Registered for Competition
         (Access event portal)

After event registration, studios and dancers submit entries through the event portal as a separate step.

Common Questions

Q: I created an account. Am I registered for the competition?
A: No. Creating a platform account only gives you access to Kompdesk. You must separately register for each competition.

Q: I registered on Kompdesk, but the organizer says I am not registered for their event. Who is right?
A: The organizer is right. Registering on Kompdesk created your account; it did not sign you up for their event. Go to that event's page and register for it as a separate step, and you will then appear on the organizer's list.

Q: I signed up. Why don't I see the event's schedule, entries, or results?
A: Those pages only appear after you register for that specific event. If you only created your Kompdesk account, you have platform access but no event access yet. Register for the event to unlock its portal.

Q: Do I have to register for Kompdesk again for every competition?
A: No. You register for Kompdesk only once. After that, you log in with the same account and register for each event separately. Your profile and history carry over.

Q: I already have a Kompdesk account. How do I actually get into a competition?
A: Log in, open the event you want (browse Find Events or use a link from the organizer), and click Register on that event. That event registration, not your account, is what enters you.

Q: Do I need a new account for each competition?
A: No. Your platform account works across all competitions. Just log in and register for each new event.

Q: Can a dancer register for the same event under two different studios?
A: Yes. If a dancer trains at multiple studios, each studio can register them for the same event. The registration fee is only charged once (to the first studio that registers the dancer). Additional studios are not charged the registration fee again. The dancer's event portal will show entries from all studios combined, and check-in only needs to happen once.

Q: I'm a studio owner. Do my dancers need accounts?
A: Dancers can optionally create accounts to view their personal schedules and results. But studios can register and manage dancers without them having accounts.

Q: What if I want to compete at multiple events?
A: Log into your existing account and register for each event separately. Your profile and history carry over.

Q: When does payment happen?
A: Fees are tracked separately from registration. The organiser sets payment instructions and deadlines, and you manage payments through the event portal after registering.
